Responsible for managing revenue and overall profits and losses (P&L) for assigned categories. Develops the customer centric strategic plan for each category. Manages ongoing business through insight-led decision making, assortment optimization, category marketing, visual merchandising, and vendor management to optimize ROIC.
Develops merchandising, display, advertising, distribution, packaging and sales plans and programs for assigned items and merchandise departments. Negotiates buying contracts and obtains most advantageous pricing. Aggressively manages category performance by establishing category goals and building financial models to predict ROIC. Uses market, competitive, and customer perception analyses to set and adjust item price levels. Demonstrates category ownership by creating and defending all planogram category strategies and decisions with sound analytics. Delegates analytic tasks to key support functions and synthesizing results. Provides Divisional Merchandise Manager with business case for promotions/ROTO spots, including promotional productivity forecast and product performance sensitivity analyses. Manages day-to-day category vendor relations and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
7 years retail experience OR a Bachelors degree and at least 4 years retail experience
Knowledge of retail business financial concepts, including penny profit market, mark-up percents, turns and ROI
4 years experience working in a procurement role and/or purchasing role
Knowledge of customer centric retailing principles and the analytics of customer purchasing behavior
4 years experience in merchandising, vendor relations, and marketing in the retail business
Basic experience using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint (inserting symbols/characters, formatting paragraphs, and using bullets & numbering in Word; working with text objects, pictures and clipart in PowerPoint)
Intermediate experience using Microsoft Excel (formatting cells, naming and using range names, freezing/unfreezing panes)
Knowledge of federal, state, and local adult beverage regulations
2 years experience as a category manager / retail buyer of beer in the food, drug or mass sector; OR 2 years experience as a supplier or distributor national / key account manager in adult beverages
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing people, projects and/or cross functional teams.
Experience developing merchandising; display; advertising; distribution; packaging; and sales plans and programs
