Job Summary & Responsibilities
Our client is seeking a Hosted Services Engineer to be part of a highly energetic Technology Infrastructure team. You must be well-versed in support, administration, and engineering of version control systems, and hosted services. The position’s responsibilities include customer support, troubleshooting, system administration, and development. You will also be responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance,
standardization and development of enterprise-wide software development collaboration software and version control systems. You must have solid oral and written communication and organizational skills, and be comfortable working in a geographically diverse
environment.
Principal Responsibilities
• Administer and maintain existing collaboration software and version control repositories including implementation, day-to-day operational support, and periodic hardware and software maintenance of all infrastructure servers.
• Daily checklist and performance monitoring of applications and key infrastructure services
• Participate in designing and implementing new technology solutions to meet specific customer needs.
• Continually evaluate the operations of the environment, and assist in the standardization, automation and delivery of server infrastructure improvements.
• Document processes and procedures and maintain operational runbooks.
• Scheduling and deploying of updates and fixes for the servers and software.
• Consistently meet the SLA's set with the customers for the services provided.
• Be available to respond to emergency situations and perform regularly scheduled maintenance.
• Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Works under general direction from management. Establishes/recommends policies on system use and services.
• Provides technical lead and is able to work closely with counterparts in other offices.
• Contribute and improve upon existing services
The candidate should also meet these additional requirements:
• Strong inter-personal and communication skills; ability to work with customers of with wide-ranging needs and sophistication.
• Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.
• Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them.
• A solid understanding of a Linux-based operating system; understands basic services and daemons such as ssh and web servers; administration experience a plus.
• Is experienced with version control systems such as CVS and Subversion; administration of version control systems a plus.
• Ability to program in standard Unix scripting languages such as Perl, Python, PHP, and basic shell scripting . Basic Java knowledge would be an asset.
• Is experienced with RDBMS and SQL.
• Must be able to sustain a high rate of workflow and work on multiple projects.
• Must be self-reliant and self-motivated, and be able to manage projects with little supervision
